George A&Rs another great CD: George was honoured this season to be asked to select and sequence the tunes for the hit CD by Toronto jazz vocalist Rita di Ghent. George was so delighted with Rita's work on this disc, that he went so far as to write the liner notes. The CD, Standards Sessions 1 was runner-up in the category of Album Of The Year at the National Jazz Awards, has been on both the Galaxie and HMV Top Ten lists, and is receiving heavy airplay on CBC Radio and Jazz.FM.
George Evans launches new CD at The Senator to standing room only:

On the weekend of December 7th, George opened at the Top o' the Senator with his quintet, featuring music from their new CD. The room was filled to capacity all weekend, and the response to the new music was electrifying.

George is now writing reviews, interviews and features for Planet Jazz, The International Jazz Review. Look for his column, "Vocalising in Jazz", starting with the Fall - Winter 2001 edition, at your newstand in November.

Leopard Expires: At the end of November, Toronto lost a recent yet worthy entry into the nightclub arena when the Leopard Lounge closed it's doors. George Evans appeared often throughout the fall at this wonderful venue, which was situated in the former Sai Woo's, a part of Toronto nightlife for many years. By the vocalists who showcased in the room and the audiences who managed to find them there, the Leopard Lounge will be missed.
George is in the rotation on CJRT Jazz-fm 91.1 in Toronto. The station is currently featuring tracks from George's 1999 I'm All Smiles release.
George Evans gave an in-store performance at the grand opening of Toronto's newest music merchandiser, Music Authority at their hip Church Street location. Those in attendance were treated to two full sets by George's quartet.
In May, George Evans appeared with a quintette at the Historic Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Montreal. This was an occasion for George to enjoy the fantastic service and presentation offered by the Ritz-Carlton Corporation, as well as the beautiful setting this type of engagement affords. Naturally George is available for other such dates in the future

George Evans also appeared at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto on August 17th with Brian Dickinson at the piano and Jim Vivian on bass.

George Evans has recently had the distinct pleasure of selecting and sequencing the tunes for the current Verve Buddy Greco re-issue. Most of these rare Coral and Kapp sides have not been on CD before, in fact, this will mark the first North American issue of this material since 1962. Jazz vocal fans will surely want to have Buddy Greco, Talkin' Verve in their collection.
