at 11:00 a.m., the first program was broadcast on CKUT-FM in Montréal. It has been my distinct pleasure to produce and host this program for the past five years.
The term upstage in theatre refers to the area at the back of the stage, behind the action down front. Similarly, UPSTAGE theatre-on-radio offers an opportunity to those produc-tions in the background; amateur, community, student, experimental, avantgarde. In other words, we give a voice to those in the theatre community that might otherwise not be heard.
UPSTAGE explores all aspects of the world of theatre. From stage elements as lighting and set design to panel discussions on the role of theatre critics, and conversations with actors, directors and playwrights.
By making theatre more accessible to those who are not regular theatregoers, we hope to increase audience interest, particularly for lesser known productions.
