A New Christmas Song

Coming soon to jazz radio in Canada is the fresh George Evans recording of a wonderful new seasonal song penned by prolific young Toronto songwriter, Jake Wilkinson. Established jazz trumpeter and bandleader Wilkinson has a growing and well-deserved reputation for his unique and charming catalogue of original material, and this debut recording presents a song whose warmth and accessibility may enable it to become a Canadian Christmas classic. The song is entitled “The Happiest Christmas,” and along with the Evans vocal, it features Mark Eisenman on piano and Wilkinson on the horn. The proceeds from the digital release are slated go to charity. Look for details on how to download “The Happiest Christmas” in the days to come on www.georgeevans.ca.

Is It Really Better With Strings?

To be completely honest, as an independent record producer, I'm not always certain what twists and turns a project may take before it's sent out into the world for you to enjoy. You may recall that the recent George Evans album project “Movie Songs” [M-Swing/Maximum 2004] was the first to feature a small horn section. The horns were a late addition that made the “Movie Songs” project special and different the small group albums that preceded it. Now that the tracks for the new George Evans release “Bewitched” are coming together, it appears that in addition to a wonderful song list, spectacular players, and good energy around the project in general, there just may be a string section waiting in the wings. It's almost a done deal, and we're nearly ready to announce the arranger in question. Trust me: I'm excited, and you will be too.
